Donation Pledge to ACRES

Donation Pledge to ACRES

In the month of January, we made a pledge to donate 1% of our sales to Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (ACRES). And with the success of the Veganuary Raffle Draw and your great support, we managed to raise $650 🥳🥳
This wouldn’t be possible without your endless kindness and generosity, and with your continued support, I hope to be able to continue contributing for many years to come 😊

You might be wondering why ACRES? 🤔 Well, ACRES is a non-governmental organisation and a registered animal welfare charity with the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) in Singapore. It aims to raise awareness of animal welfare issues, rescue and rehabilitate injured wildlife, and partner with authorities and related parties.

Last week, I made a special trip to ACRES to meet with Anbu Boopal, the CO-CEO of ACRES, and explore the sanctuary. Anbu was kind enough to take some time out of her busy schedule to show us around their wonderful facility 🥰

She brought us to the tortoise enclosure where we met Bobby, a Sulcata Tortoise 🐢 We were lucky as it was feeding time and Bobby was munching on a delicious salad of flowers and greens 😋 Whoever said tortoises are slow has never met Bobby. I finally understand why the tortoise wins the race 😛

Anbu then brought us to the bird’s enclosure. Before we even stepped into the enclosure, Dumpling and Diggle the roosters 🐓🐓 came running towards us! Anbu shared with us that Dumpling & Diggle are the supervisors of the ACRES team 😆 The 2 roosters would sit with the team whenever they were chopping up greens for feeding time, and just well...supervise 😂 Both Diggle and Dumpling were super sociable and curious and I felt so happy that they found a home where they could live their entire life in peace.

And of course, who can forget Mocha, Sunshine and Brownie, ACRES friendly doggies 🐕🦮🐕‍🦺 That’s Sunshine casually photobombing us 🥰

After the tour, I shared with Anbu my vision of a farm animal sanctuary here in Singapore, where farm animals in need would receive sanctuary and lifelong love and care; a vision where vegan food is the go-to for families. You guessed it right. I’m talking about the Everyday Vegan Village 🏡

Anbu shared with us that it would not be easy. Regulatory challenges, and the search for space. ACRES has been around for more than 20 years already, and every year there are new challenges and struggles.

The road ahead will be long & arduous, but it only makes me more determined to make the Everyday Vegan Village a reality.  I truly believe that the Singapore community will benefit from the Everyday Vegan Village.

Thank you Anbu and the ACRES team for doing what you do. We hope to see you again next month with a new and bigger cheque ☺️

As always, thank you very much for being a part of the Everyday Vegan journey. 🙏

Love, 💕
Amanda
